So I got one of those adventure holidays as a birthday present. I chose the ‘drive a tank’ option.

I got to drive two tanks – one small Abbots and the much larger Chieftain tank. I had a go with a quad bike – managed to crash it! Also drove an APC.

I was a bit apprehensive but got used to it once we got going.

O2 coverage seems weak wherever I go, while 3 is pretty strong.

Snow

Once again snow has hit the south of the uk. Last time it snowed like this was about twenty years ago.
I went to a party Friday night – there was light snow around but nothing major. Sat it heavily snowed in the afternoon. Next thing I know, the Met line and Picaddily line aren’t working from where I am. So I stay at my place. My mum is in hospital and the snow has meant not being able to see her. Sunday and the tube is still messed up, I catch a bus to the Central Line and then onwards to my partner’s place in London. Finally after all that I’ve gone down with a cold.

Correction: turns out I had a fever and the flu. It’s lasted a lot longer than an ordinary cold.

Samsung Galaxy Tab

So I finally get a Galaxy Tab (Android tablet). It does feel less polished than the iPhone, and apps do crash a lot more. I’ve seen one kernel panic already.

Contacts app has a ZIP field – where you can only enter numbers. Great. What happens if you’re not American?

I can’t play any musical instrument. Except plink around on a keyboard in C Major. So imagine having a instrument that you can dial up the key and scale in… hello Korg Kaossilator!

IFA 2010

Went to IFA 2010 in Berlin. That’s one big show! Saw a Samsung Galaxy Tab (I want one!) and the HTC Desire.

Took my iPhone 3GS with me with everything shutdown except wireless. I had some offline maps – they weren’t that hot.

Signal strength… there’s an app for that…

No, wait. There isn’t on the iPhone. Certainly all the wifi ones have been banned.

Update: now that I have an android tablet, there is a wifi scanner for android.

iPhone programming

Objective C – fail (old language)
C++ – check, however fail, because you have to have some Objective C
Layout done in a tool – fail
IDE only runs on a MAC – fail
Emulator only runs on a MAC – fail
