Learning to set Z0 correctly!
Had a go at printing some Y belt clamps. Almost works but one side is too tight to fit the belt.

Worked out I hadn’t put a final jumper on the Duet board, so it was drawing power from USB. Once that was done, I plugged in a network cable and can see the printer on my home network.
Getting better at printing. I adjusted the Z height to 1mm above what I measured and things are much better. I also switched on the bed levelling compensation. Now my 20x20x20 cube is correct. My next problem is the print lifting off the bed, it doesn’t seem to stick too well.
Here are some hollow test cubes:
The left hand one had too low Z height and no bed compensation – hence the squashed look! The second from the left had the Z height raised by 1mm, but no bed compensation. The last two had the Z height raised and bed compensation, and they do come out as 20x20x20 cubes.
Here are some more test prints:
The flange on the left started lifting off the front left edge, as did both of the other objects. The ring in the center is worst affected.

slight issue with Z height

So the extruder doesn’t work. Took it apart, and realised the whole wheel is supposed to be sitting snug inside, otherwise the knurled wheel doesn’t drag the filament… burr on the plastic hole. Sorted that out.
Extruding works, judging by the stringy mess that appear.
Something odd going on with the Z probe – it couldn’t home X correctly. Hmmmm….

set the IP settings – except there’s no network where it is

The hot end fan comes on 8)
Run pronterface
Set the hot end to 100C – check!
Set the hot end to 200C – check!
Smell that oil burning
OFF
Set the bed to 45C – wait for it… YES, the bed is WARM – check!
OFF
Move the axis – OMG! OMG!
Whirr! – check!
X, Y and Z – check!
Enough…
Next is the bed compensation. OMG, it’s working so far!
Removed the awful crimped connectors for the thermistor and used some more simple connectors. Now I’m seeing bed temp. when I try the test again.
Oh drat. The bed thermistor isnt’t working. The electronics reported:
B: 10.5 T: -273
sure sign the bed isn’t connected. So I took it apart and realised straight away – the connectors weren’t fully pushed into the holes. Trouble is one was wrecked when I crimped it on, so I’ve had to remove it. Now I’ll have to solder a small piece of wire onto the thermistor to get it into the crimping connector. Very fiddly.
Otherwise good start from the electronics.
